This week has been a whirlwind of activity with all the preparations for the Spring Concert. We made our special hats using paper and paint.
We also drew the orchid in our classroom for the second time. Ask your child what changed between the first drawing and the second! It is exciting to see something grow and change. Spring will come soon, I'm sure of it!
In Math, we practiced a game called Uno Más! The children needed to roll a dice, add uno más (one more) to the dice rolled, and cover that space. Once someone covers an entire row, they win!

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about love; Loving Ourselves, Loving Others, and Loving our Land. Below are some examples of our work. Some of the writing is copied from the board, and the rest of the time, children are using "kid spelling" and recording the sounds they hear in words. They are showing great improvement.
We made "mitones" (mittens) and painted them using an ABC pattern.

Paul Davis Presentation
|
The Dalhousie Parent Society presents: PAUL DAVIS – Online and Social Networking Safety Officer. Join us March 15th at 7:30 pm for this information session. Click here to register. A zoom link will be sent out shortly to registered parents.
We are so thrilled to have been able to book a virtual presentation from Paul Davis, an expert in Online Safety. Davis, a father of two teenagers, is a self-described ‘techie’. He has worked in IT for more than 25 years. Since 2011, he has added the role of social networking safety educator, regularly addressing students, teachers, educators and parents in school settings across Canada and the United States, as well as speaking to corporate clients about topics including: online safety, cyberbullying, online security, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.). Since the digital world is not going away, we wanted to learn how to best protect our children now since many kids already have access to smartphones. Paul's presentation will talk about the appropriate age for a child to have a smartphone, Smartphone contracts — understanding terms and conditions, what is legal and illegal, Establishing rules for smartphone usage (he does not recommend smartphones until grade 7), Regulating and monitoring screen time and mobile device usage and his personal experience with internet and social media safety, as a father of two teenagers, along with research on screen time and its effect on sleep patterns. There will also be a Q&A! REGISTER TODAY: March 15 at 7:30 pm as this is not a presentation you will want to miss. Register here! |

The Scholastic book fair will be in the Learning Commons. If you can’t make, you can access it online.
Due to emergent circumstances, the office will not be open in the evening as previously indicated. If you have any questions, please contact the office at dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca or 403.777.6030 during business hours.

We have been working with Ten Frames (marcos de diez) to further build our understanding of number concepts to 10. Today the children created a number line with the ten frames by mixing them up, taking the top card and placing it in the right spot between 1 and 10. This helped developed the concept of numbers being before, after and in-between other numbers.
We have almost learned all the letter sounds of consonants and short vowels. Today, we worked with the letters SATIM to spell some short words. This was the first time we have done this in class, and I was very impressed with how well the students did.
Today, we drew a picture of the orchid we have in the classroom. We will repeat this process next week, as there are 2 buds that are about to flower.
PLEASE BOOK A PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE! I am looking forward to speaking with all of you regarding your child's progress.
